The club first met in homes and in June 1966 was "federated" as a state and national organization.

Club flower
In 1888 a chrysanthemum brought in a pot from Kansas was the only floral tribute at the first settlement funeral of the Frank J. Brown family. As a tribute to the city founders, the club chose it as the club flower.

Marie Workman Center
In 1989 HG purchased the home at 112 W. Spreading Oaks and made it into a clubhouse. In June 1992 it was named The Marie Workman Garden Center and Briscoe Gardens after founding members Marie Workman and Ed and Ruby Briscoe,
